Frequently asked questions
I have never played the piano and I can't read music notes. Can I join the Paris Institute of Music?
You are most welcome to join The Paris Music Institute even if you are an absolute beginner without any prior musical experience. Our piano lessons are designed for adults who are brand new to music so no previous knowledge is required to join. Learning how to read music notation, and getting to know music theory will be part of your piano course so there is nothing to worry about.
Your concerns, in the framework of your questions, are entirely natural.
It is not easy for an adult to be a new music student with the fear of being too old or not talented enough...
Rest assured, throughout our vast experience in teaching we know that there is no age limit to learning the piano; our brains are capable of learning new things all throughout our lifetime and you can succeed more than you know!
Furthermore, you will acquire three fundamental skills: discipline, concentration and motivation during your piano lessons!
You will be amazed at how quickly you will make progress and how much fun you will have whilst learning to play the piano!
Each adult student has his or her own unique way of learning to which the teacher adapts his or her teaching. Your teacher will take into account your individual needs, desires, availability and personality, and will be more of a mentor than just an instructor.
You will be amazed at how quickly you will make progress and how much fun you will have whilst learning to play the piano!
The first encounter during the introductory session is crucial. It will allow you to get to know your teacher and understand the quality of teaching that we offer at the Paris Music Institute.
You do not need to own a piano to start your piano course as this can be discussed with your instructor during your first piano lesson. He or she will be able to make a recommendation and advise on the best piano store to visit. Alternatively, you can also email Stefan at contact@institutdemusiquedeparis.com to enquiry about our digital piano rentals.
Absolutely! Paris Music Institute is entirely dedicated to adults who wish to play for their pleasure and enjoyment so you are more than welcome to join.
We would recommend a minimum of 15 to 30 minutes per day for 4 to 5 days per week. This is just a rough guide for beginners. The amount you need to practice will depend upon your musical goals and your current musical level.
It all depends on your current musical level. As a complete beginner, you can start with 15 minutes each day to get into the habit of practising on a daily basis. It should then increase to 30 minutes quite rapidly as you will need enough time to review and improve the material that has been studied during your piano lessons.
We offer this option if you wish, in which case your teacher will guide you in the selection and preparation of the various examinations and (where applicable) competitions.
This is a difficult question to answer because your progress depends on your capabilities, your motivation, your goals and the time you have available. Our experience suggests that you should be able to play a few simple but enjoyable pieces in a few lessons.
The duration of your piano course depends on your personal goal after attending for a minimum of 3 months. Your lessons will then take place on an ongoing basis until you are satisfied with your piano playing or unable to pursue your education.
Of course. If you are a proficient pianist, we would certainly recommend that you inform us prior to the beginning of your course. It should, therefore, be booked with one of our senior piano instructors, who definitely possess the right set of skills and experience to help you improve further.
Absolutely. We know how daunting it can be for a classically trained pianist to step into jazz piano playing and we would be delighted to support you in your endeavour to learn jazz piano!
We do not follow a set syllabus but prefer adapting to each individual in order to provide you with the most suitable piano education possible. The content of our piano lessons depends on your current abilities, wishes and the style of piano playing that you are interested in pursuing.
At the Paris Music Institute, we understand that it can be difficult for some busy professionals to attend their piano lessons on a set day and time each week. We will be happy to accommodate you but please inform us before signing up as any special request is subject to availability.
