The different facets of the word amateur Looking at its etymology, we find that the two words ‘amateur’ and ‘aime’ share the same origin, ‘amor’; however, ‘amateur’ adds a further idea to the general term ‘aime’, since being an amateur always indicates a particular preference that has in some way become a field of study.
