Yuko at the piano
As I have loved playing the piano since I was a little girl, it was really important for me to find the ideal place where I could continue my piano practice. So I had the chance to meet Céline Gaurier-Joubert online on her website.
From the beginning, my teacher, Celine, understood my attitude and interest in music. Each time, she gives me clear advice so that I can naturally discover the problems I need to improve in my playing, and also so that I can think about how I should work on my technique, at home too, with my goals in mind.
Our discussions are not only about some practical methods, but go further into various topics related to the piece I am working on, such as the background of the composer or the stories involved behind each melody, which open my eyes and encourage my imagination.
In addition, special master classes are often organised. They also help me to better understand the MUSIC itself. While the weekly private lesson is very effective in that I can simply concentrate on each sound I make, in the flow of the one-on-one conversation with Celine, the masterclasses offer students wonderful opportunities to share a lot of information together, as well as the chance to discover various pieces that one would never have known/played before.
The masterclasses also make me realise the importance of playing in front of other people: An atmosphere with the right sense of tension helps me to think about how I should express and convey my sound to the audience.

"Imagine you are walking through the most beautiful garden... your immediate attention is drawn to all the colourful flowers in the garden. You may even recognise the names of some of the flowers. You feel satisfied... but not ecstatic.
And that's because the flowers are only 20% of the true beauty of this garden - without a guide you would have missed all the fragrant herbs, the significance of the magnificent old trees, the symbiotic fauna, the tiny but essential microscopic flora that creates the ecosystem necessary for the garden to thrive.
For me, this garden is a metaphor for music, the piano in this context to be precise.
The flowers represent things I knew and appreciated before I joined Celine. But becoming aware of all the other aspects would not have been possible without my lessons with Celine!

I started to learn the piano at the age of 11, but I quickly gave up after a year.
In the past, I always thought that playing the piano was about learning and memorising notes.
The lack of appreciation of music has greatly reduced my interest in the piano.
But everything changed when I met Celine, the best piano teacher I have ever met.
She is such a talented pianist who gave me so many useful tips on how to practice. The changes were made little by little.
After his advice, the music became completely different and alive!

Returning to piano lessons as an adult with Céline, after having stopped for about 25 years, rekindled my passion for learning and playing this wonderful instrument with a fervour and pleasure that I had never experienced before.

I studied piano for two years as a child and then for three years when I was 30, but I had to stop because of work.
I started again four years ago, at the age of 47, but I wasn't making much progress, despite the long hours spent studying.
After trying two teachers, I met Céline a year and a half ago, when I was about to give up, thinking that maybe piano wasn't for me.
And I am so happy to have met her!
She is the best piano teacher I have ever had.
She has found a way for me to approach a new piece so that I learn it perfectly. She helps me overcome any technical difficulties I encounter - every time I come to her with what seems like an insurmountable problem, she has the solution! And so I leave the lesson energised and ready for the challenge.
Céline also focuses on musicality, sound and interpretation, something completely new for me, but so fundamentally necessary!
