Understanding Your Timetable and Term Break Periods

Our educational system is carefully structured to balance high-quality teaching with essential breaks. To this end, we observe the following schedule:

  • Term Structure: Each term covers 13 weeks, but we schedule lessons for only 12 weeks, thereby allowing a natural one-week break each term when the school is closed.
  • Natural Break: This break ensures that everyone benefits from well-deserved rest and that the school can maintain its facilities and prepare for the next term.
  • Lesson Distribution: Due to the term break and the varying number of weeks in each month, you might receive 5 lessons one month but only 3 another. However, over the course of a term, this balances out to an average of 4 lessons per month.

Example: January to March Term

January (5 Weeks): Suppose the lessons are weekly, and you start with 5 lessons in January.

February (4 Weeks): February follows with 4 weeks of lessons.

March (3 Weeks): In March, the school observes a natural break, resulting in only 3 weeks of lessons for the month. This break allows for maintenance and preparation for the next term.

Example: October to December Term

October or November (5 Weeks): Depending on the day of the week your lesson takes place, either October or November will have 5 weeks of lessons. This adjustment accounts for the natural variation in the calendar.

October or November (5 Weeks): The other month, not having 5 weeks, will standardly have 4 weeks of lessons, maintaining balance in the schedule.

December (3 Weeks): December has only 3 weeks of lessons due to the natural break over Christmas. This schedule allows students and staff to enjoy the holiday season.

This scheduling philosophy ensures that, despite monthly variations, each student receives a fair and consistent amount of instruction over the course of the term, while also benefiting from a well-timed break to recharge.

Understanding the Distribution of Lessons

To provide a clear understanding of how lessons are organised throughout the year, it is important to note that the number of lessons may vary from one month to another.

  • Monthly Structure: Lessons take place on a weekly basis, at a fixed day and time.
  • Natural Variation: Depending on the calendar, some months may include 5 lessons, while others may include only 3.
  • Termly Balance: Over the course of a term, the total number of lessons is balanced, ensuring steady and well-structured progress.

Example:

If a month includes 5 weeks, you will have 5 lessons. If another month includes a term break, you will then have only 3 lessons. This structure allows for a consistent rhythm throughout the term.

This structured approach ensures that, despite monthly variations, each student benefits from a stable and consistent programme over the long term.

In essence, the term break ensures that, as a student on a fixed course, you receive an average of four lessons per month.

This approach is based on the fact that, although a term spans 13 weeks, you are scheduled for 12 lessons, effectively averaging four lessons across each of the three months.
